Today my heart goes out to the 135 workers and families impacted by the layoffs at Central Alabama Water.

Moments like this remind us that behind every headline are real people. Parents. Providers. Neighbors. People who showed up ready to work and suddenly found themselves facing uncertainty.

As a pastor, I believe the strength of a city is revealed in how we respond when our people are hurting.

That is why I appreciate the leadership our Mayor is showing right now. Instead of ignoring the moment, he immediately began looking for ways to create opportunity by identifying open positions across the City of Birmingham so that skilled workers can continue providing for their families and serving our community.

That kind of response matters.

Leadership is not just about policy. It is about compassion, responsibility, and stepping up when people need stability the most.

Rock City is praying for every family affected today. We are also praying for wisdom for our city leaders as they work to support workers and keep Birmingham moving forward.

Over the next few days, I will also be working with our team to formulate a plan for how we can support and assist families who have been impacted. When our community faces moments like this, the Church should not just speak. The Church should serve.

If you were impacted today, know this. Your work matters. Your dignity matters. And your community sees you.

We are believing God will open new doors, bring provision, and turn this difficult moment into the beginning of something better.
